Isla Iguana
This is the closest wildlife reserve to Pedasi, it’s just a quick 20 minute boat ride from the local Arenal beach. The reserve was created in 1981 and is a total of 52 hectares of beautiful forest and beach. The best part of the island are the coral reefs, which are the largest in the Gulf of Panama totalling 40 hectares. The data collected here is impressive, sixteen species of coral have been identified, 347 species of fish, 200 species of marine invertebrates, 62 species of birds, 6 species of terrestrial reptiles, 3 species of marine tortoises and 7 of marine mammals.
The best part of the island is that it resembles the Carribbean Ocean much more than the Pacific! Here the beach is made of white powdery sand and the water is crystal clear torquise blue! The area is perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing. There is rancho on the island where local fisherman hang out and visitors can sit in the shade as well as an information center on the wildlife found there and a hiking trail that leads to the other side of the island and a more secluded beach.
